Quick Weight Loss and Burning Fat

October 3rd, 2008 by Marc Warren | No Comments | Filed in Weight Loss

Oftentimes people use quick weight loss diets to help them lose a few pounds in order to fit into a certain outfit or to help them have a better self-image. It may seem like everyone is on some kind of quick weight loss diet, but they aren’t always a good idea. Before embarking on any diet, you should be sure to consult your physician.

Quick weight loss diets are hardly new. However, embarking on one causes a significant change in your dietary and nutritional intake. A quick weight loss diet lasting longer than a week is not recommended for anyone.

A quick weight loss diet should not be followed indefinitely. You might think that you’re doing great and feeling good, but after about two weeks your body will adapt to the new diet and you will no longer lose weight at such a rapid rate. You’ll still lose some weight but it isn’t healthy in the long term.

Your body will begin to shut down and start entering starvation mode if you stop eating. If you have a lot of weight you want to drop, losing weight over time becomes more difficult when you do this. Therefore, while it is tempting to drastically limit your intake when dieting, it will not result in long term weight loss and is the reason why these types of quick weight loss diets are only able to be used for a short duration of time.

When you have lost the weight that you wanted to on your quick weight loss diet, it is often tempting to reward yourself by eating everything in sight. Perhaps that would be a large mistake. Instead, strive to eat balanced and healthy meals while still controlling your caloric intake. Drinking plenty of water is also recommended. Often simply drinking a glass of water will help curb any hunger pains you experience.

Take it easy on yourself physically after you are done dieting. Your body will once again have to get used to the change, even though it felt fine while you were dieting. This change may create additional stress for your body. The adjustment to the recommended intake of calories for your body size should be a gradual one. In this way, you will become accustomed to eating healthily for life, so that you will not have to revert to yo-yo dieting.

A quick weight loss diet can be a smart way to lose a few pounds quickly when you start a weight loss program. To enhance your results, supplement these diets with moderate exercise. But it’s important to eat a sufficient quantity of healthy food with any diet.

Discover Why Traditional Diets Don’t Work

October 2nd, 2008 by Marc Warren | No Comments | Filed in Weight Loss

How many different diets have you tried in the past that simply haven’t worked? What is it with diets that simply don’t work? So many “weight loss gurus” still preach the myth that dieting by eating less will help with weight loss. In reality when we restrict our food intake we run the risk of actually gaining weight. We are designed to interpret reduced food intake with starvation. By restricting our food intake we trigger our body’s starvation preservation mode.

All the weight loss studies show that normal weight and healthy people usually eat a diet that contain plenty of complex carbohydrates (such as fruits and veg, pulses etc) and most people who are overweight follow diets that are high in fat. We need to fully understand how our bodies work in order to create a successful weight loss program. One of the best ways to lose weight fast is to adopt a low carb diet where you restrict the total amount of carbs you take in each day, but are not too concerned about the other foods. You should however make sure you don’t overeat, by carefully managiing your portion sizes, and ensuring you get the right balance of healthy nutritious foods which should also be low in saturated fats.

The weight gain is largely a factor of lifestyle and eating habits and the weight gradually crept up over time rather than overnight. Because it took a long time to gain the weight, you should allow some time to get back to your normal weight. Individuals who do not understand the balance between watching what you eat, taking in adequate water, getting regular exercise and getting proper amounts of sleep are the next customers to the marketing companies pushing the new fad diet, lose weight pill or quick weight loss program. It’s not hard to find these fad or celebrity weight loss plans and diet pills. As we live in a world where we want everything now, it is easier to believe that there is a magic pill, drink, or program that can take the excess weight off quickly, than to believe that we have the ability to re-structure our lives and live healthier longer lives where obesity is in the dim and distant past.

Most diets fail because they do not show you how to create a balance within your body. Diets are doomed to failure because they are structured around making the promoter or some company money rather than structuring a weight loss product or program that will genuinely assist a person to lose weight.

We hear everywhere that those who are obese are more likely to succumb to diseases and other life threatening health problems owing to excessive body weight. Eating high levels of saturated fat is one of the main contributors to unnecessary body fat.

People have been led to believe for too many years that they need to cut down on food or watch every last calorie before they can burn off excess fat. The truth is that our bodies know perfectly well how to manage weight providing we give our bodies what they need to stay healthy - like making sure you get plenty of rest, drink enough water, wholesome and nutritious foods, and some regular physical exercise.

Getting rid of those extra pounds is not only about calorie counting, you also need to avoid eating in excess. Healthy portions of healthy foods are one key to losing weight. Another key to losing weight is not leading a sedentary life but one that involves giving your body the daily physical activity that it craves. Our bodies were made to move!

Seltzer Water fasting For Weight Loss

September 13th, 2008 by Marc Warren | No Comments | Filed in Weight Loss

Everyday we hear reports that the US population is becoming increasingly overweight, and just as often we are faced with a confusing array of diets, pills and other products, all claiming to help us lose weight. Most of these products are not grounded in sound nutrition. Recently, the benefits of weight loss through water fasting have been touted by certain health-conscious groups, However research does not support this claim.

Before beginning any type of diet, it is a sensible thing to determine if one is really overweight. It is easy to recognize excess weight, however there is a distinction between overweight and being obese. An overweight person is one who has a body mass index (BMI) of 25 to 29.9, while an obese person is one with a BMI of 30 or more.

Some people become overweight because of compulsive eating or food addiction. Drinking copious amounts of water will not help a person lose weight if he/she is constantly eating lots of fried foods and sweet things. During a water fast, a person drinks only water when thirsty. Water fasting is undertaken for spiritual reasons among several religions. Traditionally, Roman Catholics do a water fast before receiving Holy Communion. Muslims and Jews all fast at certain times of the year during special observances, while Christians fast whenever they feel like it.

Some people engage in water fasting as a means of detoxifying the body, with weight loss as its ultimate goal. It is believed that water fasting helps the body to heal and detoxify faster than juice fast. The idea behind this is that less energy is used in digesting food, freeing up energy for the release of toxins. However, doctors and dietitians warn against this practice, saying that the human body is capable of losing toxins through the skin, liver, colon and kidneys. They say that extended water fasts are harmful as the body loses vital nutrients; they also slow down the metabolism.

Proponents of water fasting attribute several health benefits to this type of fast. Among them are:
a. More energy
b. Healthier skin
c. Improved sleep
d. Elimination of headaches
e. Elimination of stored toxins and
f. Weight loss

Another reason given for water fasting is that more fat is burned during a water fast as the body has to draw on its stored fat for energy after the first few days of fasting. Finally, it is advised that water fasting is more effective when accompanied by physical and emotional rest. If this is not possible, then a juice fast is recommended.

Those who find the taste of water boring can drink carbonated water. There is no calories added and there is both neutral and flavored carbonated waters available.

Water by itself is essential to life. We cannot live without water, but like everything else it must not be overdone. Dietitians and nutrition experts maintain that the only way water can help a person lose weight is if they substitute water for high-calorie drinks and foods. While fasting may have some health benefits, the key to these benefits is moderation, and, as always, if in doubt consult your medical practitioner.

Back to School with a New Body - How The Fat Loss 4 Idiots Diet Works

September 4th, 2008 by Marc Warren | No Comments | Filed in Weight Loss

How a Calorie Shifting Diet Works Parts 1

Calorie shifting is the hottest buzz in the weight loss industry these days, but although most people don’t really know how it works, it is not new. The method has been quietly used by smart people in the fitness industry for years and will help nearly anyone shed huge amounts of fat poundage pretty quickly. Compared to a run of the mill low fat or low calorie diet, a calorie shifting type diet is like a walk in the park because it will not make the dieter miserable while she’s on it.

Calorie shifting is a weight loss strategy designed to combat the natural slowdown that occurs in your metabolism whenever you are restricting your caloric intake. The theory, now long proven, is that it is possible for you to manipulate your body’s metabolism level at will to induce the burning of fat. This is done simply by varying the types and amounts calories that you eat each day, usually over the course of 7 to 14 days.

A quick example would be to severely restrict your calories for 5-7 days, then eat normally or even overeat just a little for 2 days. The optimal number of days under calorie restriction differs for each person but the dieter will be losing fat while finding out. The method works very well for virtually everyone. So the best thing to do is just to get started on it without over thinking it. You will lose body fat.

The calorie shifting diet is the most effective way to keep your metabolism running at peak performance while shedding body fat and keeping muscle tone. If used properly it will unleash the body’s hidden fat burning potential and can actually increase metabolism causing even more rapid weight loss to occur. The best selling Fat Loss 4 Idiots Diet is probably the most effective example of a diet plan that uses the calorie shifting method, and it is available online. It features an Online Diet Generator that will create customized meals in seconds and is perfect for the busy dieter who is not interested in reading endless food labels and counting calories.

Metabolism-What Happens When We Diet

The human body is amazing in its efficiency at adapting to various hardships and stressors and this includes a severe calorie restriction diet, which to the body means starvation. The body gets the message fairly quickly and then promptly makes the necessary adjustments to maintain homeostasis. In other words the body will slow it’s metabolism down to a slow crawl. Which means fat loss slows as well. This is what happens when a dieter hits a plateau and she stops losing weight several weeks into a diet.

That’s a good thing if you are a member of a tribe of early humans and your meals are feast or famine, because your body would slow it’s metabolism down and you could live off of your fat stores. But if you’re a slightly pudgy soccer mom with a high school reunion coming up in a month, it’s not helping you at all.

The body’s normal responses to severe dieting include:

Decreased levels of T3 and T4 thyroid hormones, which play a principal part in regulating your metabolism faster or slower.

Decreased metabolic rate because of the thyroid decrease and other elements.

Increased levels of cortisol which is a very catabolic or “muscle wasting” hormone.

Also, decreased leptin levels have been observed. Leptin is the hormone that tells the body to use fat for energy. Lower levels of this hormone are the opposite of what you want during a fat loss diet.

Good luck, get ready to buy some new “thin” clothes.
